Shameel was appointed as the CEO of the Vodacom Group in September 2012 after spending 18 months as the CEO of Vodafone Spain and a member of the Vodafone Group Operations Committee.
He has 17 years of experience in telecoms having joined Vodacom in March 1994. He was the Managing Director of Vodacom South Africa from April 2005 to March 2011 and also a Director of the Vodacom Group from September 2000 to March 2011.
Shameel has served as the Managing Director of Vodacom Service Provider from 2000 to 2005. Shameel was also the founder and Managing Director of Vodacom Equipment Company (Pty) Ltd., Vodacom’s former handset company, from 1998 to 2000.
He has held various board positions in the Vodacom Group of companies in South Africa and Africa and was Chairman of a number of subsidiary companies until he was promoted to the role of CEO of Vodafone Spain on 1 April 2011.
Shameel holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Honours) from the University of South Africa and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. He is an Associated General Accountant and Commercial and Financial Accountant (South Africa).
